Welcome to SC Elementary!

  • elementary schoolDear Parents, Students, & Visitors:

Welcome to South Central Elementary School’s website! SCES serves approximately 500 students in Preschool through 6th grade. We are located in rural Union Mills, IN in south La Porte County. South Central is a tradition-rich school community committed to academic excellence that has served generation after generation of local families since the 1960s.

We are very proud to be designated an “A” school by the Indiana Department of Education. South Central Elementary School’s students and staff are dedicated and work extremely hard to ensure that learning is a top priority in our school daily. We provide students with a safe, nurturing, and respectful environment that allows them to grow and develop to their greatest potential. Through professional learning communities (PLCs), our highly qualified teachers collaborate continuously to discuss academic progress, student learning, and staff development needs.

Parental involvement in a child’s education is very important to us at South Central. We strongly encourage parents to be our partners in education to empower students to be successful, life-long learners. We welcome you to visit our school. Please contact the office if you wish to schedule a time. Also, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

    Benjamin C. Anderson

  • iread3 logoThe Indiana Reading Evaluation And Determination (IREAD-3) assessment will be administered to all third grade students during March.

The purpose of the IREAD-3 is to measure foundational reading standards through grade three. Based on the Indiana Academic Standards, IREAD-3 is a summative assessment that was developed in accordance with Public Law 109 which "requires the evaluation of reading skills for students who are in grade three beginning in the Spring of 2012 to ensure that all students can read proficiently before moving on to grade four".
