Superintendent's Message

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. On behalf of the South Central School Board and the entire staff, we welcome you. We like to think of ourselves as the little school with a big curriculum. As you browse through this site, you will be able to see that we offer students a variety of options.

South Central Junior-Senior High School has been nationally recognized with a Bronze Medal in U.S. News & World Report’s Best High School 2016 national ranking.  This award is based on data related to academic performance on standardized state exams and college-readiness programming.  South Central was one of 127 Indiana high schools to receive national ranking.

We will have 1:1 technology this year thanks to a high competitive e-learning grant from the Indiana Department of Education.  This grant will allow us to support our teachers through staff development and upgrade our infrastructure.  Sparked by a two-year pilot in fifth and sixth grades, the district is hoping to duplicate our accomplishment in developing and structuring knowledge for college, career, and beyond by providing this digital resource.  We believe that today’s students are true digital natives who are accustomed to instant access to information.

It is our desire to continue to improve college and career preparation classes to meet the needs of all of our students. Students enjoy their involvement in dual credit classes, AP classes, as well as vocational technology pathways. They participate in a variety of athletic and academic competitions and in the field of fine arts. Students enrolled in our Agriculture program have access to many opportunities outside of the school setting, including attending the FFA National Conference. Project Lead the Way allows our students to explore their problem solving skills. We offer a small school environment while continuing to expand our curricular offerings.

In addition to the investment in our curriculum and programs, our district has been involved in major renovation of our facilities. Upon visiting our schools, you will immediately encounter our new secure entry.  Visitors will be allowed into the office areas and once it is determined they are no threat to our students, they will be allowed to pass through the second secured entrance.  The principals’ offices have both been updated to allow for a more secure entrance as well.  The phone system has been updated for both administrators and teachers.   Emergency procedures can be addressed thought these new phones plus local law enforcement agents are notified of emergencies as well.

The mechanical, electrical, and HVAC system have been completely updated. Most of that work has been completed behind brick and mortar, but it was noticeably cooler during graduation ceremony this year. A gym is located in the same area as our new band and choir rooms. The theater classes will now have a small practice area in addition to ample storage for props and scenery. Our new sport’s trainer will have a work space, allowing all athletes to have their medical needs met. The cafeteria will have new serving lines, and a concession area will allow our students involved in after school athletics or academic programs to have a healthy snack right after school.

South Central Schools were successful in acquiring many grants for this year.  In addition to the technology grant, we also receive an Alternative School Grant that will help offset cost for the Virtual Lab and a Preschool Grant that will offset the cost of preschool for parents fitting certain criteria.  A grant from Alco will support our Robotics Team as they compete with schools in Robotics First competitions.

We are proud of our school corporation and the students, staff, and families, and welcome opportunities to share student experiences. We hope this website allows you to locate the information needed to make sound academic choices.  South Central Schools is home to many outstanding students, families, and faculty. We work together to help every student find their path in life.

Thank you for your interest in our schools,

Linda J. Wiltfong,
