This morning, the Indiana Department of Education released Spring 2026 ILEARN assessment data (2025-26 school year). Once again, South Central Schools performed exceptionally well, leading LaPorte County in most areas and ranking among the top-performing school districts in Indiana. We are very PROUD of our students and staff!

• 1st in LaPorte County in ILEARN Math scores for Grades 3-8
  • South Central LED all LaPorte County public school districts with 55.4% meeting proficiency (compared to a state average of 42.7% meeting proficiency)
• 1st in LaPorte County in ILEARN English/Language Arts scores for Grades 3-8
  • South Central LED all LaPorte County public school districts with 49.7% meeting proficiency (compared to a state average of 42.0% meeting proficiency)
• 1st in LaPorte County in ILEARN Social Studies scores for Grade 5
  • SC led LaPorte County with 58.8% meeting proficiency (compared to a state average of 47.7% meeting proficiency)
• 2nd in LaPorte County in ILEARN Science scores for Grades 4 & 6
  • SC was 2nd in LP County with 57.0% (behind New Prairie's 57.1%) meeting proficiency
• South Central students scored 12.7% above state average for ILEARN Math proficiency scores for Grades 3-8
• South Central students scored 7.7% above state average for ILEARN ELA proficiency scores for Grades 3-8
• Ranked in the TOP 15% of all school corporations, charter schools, and private schools in the State of Indiana for ILEARN Math scores for Grades 3-8, and TOP 20% for ELA!
• Ranked in the TOP 10% of all school corporations, charter schools, and private schools in the State of Indiana for ILEARN Science scores for Grades 4 & 6, and TOP 18% for Social Studies!

Dear South Central Families,

As you know, South Central students missed four instructional days at the beginning of the 2026-27 school year as a result of the severe storms and the widespread impact they had on our communities.

Since that time, we have worked with the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) to determine how we can recover this lost instructional time while minimizing additional disruption to our school calendar. I am pleased to share that IDOE has approved South Central to recover the missed instructional time through the surplus instructional minutes already built into our existing school day.

Because our school day is longer than the minimum instructional day required by Indiana law, we have instructional minutes built into our current schedule that can be intentionally used to recover the time lost during the storm-related closure. This means we will not need to add four additional student days to the school calendar.

As part of this plan, our teachers and administrators will intentionally use these additional minutes for academic acceleration and support. This may include small-group instruction, targeted interventions, additional opportunities for students to practice essential skills, and other activities designed to address the academic impact of the missed instructional time.

We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigated the unprecedented circumstances surrounding the start of this school year. Most importantly, we appreciate the support our families and community showed one another during and following the storms.

Thank you for a fantastic start to the new school year! End-of-day dismissal procedures are a challenge for all schools. We are no exception here at SC. We are going to make a couple of small changes in an effort to improve the efficiency of dismissal time. We appreciate your patience and cooperation!

• South Drive as ENTRANCE ONLY. Beginning Friday, August 28th, the South Drive into the school (by the baseball field) will be an ENTRANCE ONLY from 2:40-3:05pm.
  • All 3 lanes will be entrance only.
  • The lane closest to the school remains the elementary only pick-up line.
  • The middle lane will remain the JH/HS pick-up lane. This is also the pick-up line if families have students in BOTH elementary and JH/HS.
  • The lane closest to the baseball field (that is normally the exit lane) will be an entrance into the parking lot area.

• The far North Drive on the elementary end of the building (and by the playground) is always an EXIT ONLY.
  • A staff member will be present to assist in directing traffic, so that both pick-up line vehicles and student drivers can merge and exit safely.
  • All student drivers will need to exit using the north drive now.

• Students with Bus Service
  • If you have bus service for your child, please consider utilizing that whenever possible. This will reduce the number of vehicles in the car line and speed up that process a bit.
  • If your child can ride the bus but has not been riding, please contact the school office or the bus driver to ensure details are worked out.

• Turn Lane on County Road 600 W
  • South Central's administration has been working with county officials in an effort to add a 3rd lane to 600 W between the school driveway entrances.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Beginning Monday, July 27th at 9:00am, South Central will open online registration via Harmony Family Access. We would like to remind you to check your demographics, update phone numbers, update emergency contacts and their phone numbers, update your email addresses, and update your home/mailing address. There are also some registration forms that will need to be electronically signed. Some forms will need to be signed annually when you register online. The forms are listed in the online registration section in Harmony Family Access. It is important that you update your Family Access account with your most current information for bus routing purposes and so the school can contact you with important updates throughout the school year.

If you have already registered your pre-k and/or kindergarten student, you will not have to come into the school for new student registration BUT you will need to log into your Harmony Family Access account to update demographics and fill out the consent forms. You will receive an email with your student's registration code on Monday, July 27th. If you did NOT come into the school during pre-k and/or kindergarten round-up, you will still need to come in person to start the registration process.

All new students are required by the state to provide proof of residency. Any returning students who have moved to a new address from the one listed in Harmony are also required to provide proof of residency. Your proof of residency should be one of the following documents: Current (within the last 60 days) utility bill, bank statement, or rental/lease agreement. A driver's license and mailed advertisements do NOT meet the residency verification requirements set forth by the Indiana Department of Education.

Beginning Friday, July 24th, we will be scheduling appointments for all NEW STUDENTS. New student registration appointments will be Tuesday, July 28th (8:30-2:30), Wednesday, July 29th (12:30-6:30), and Thursday, July 30th (8:30-2:30). Please call the school to schedule an appointment. On those days, we also welcome families that cannot register from home to come to the school to register students. Please call to schedule an appointment. Also, please bring your username and password with you.

If you have forgotten your password to Family Access, you will need to click the "forgot my password" link, and Harmony will send an email (check your spam folder). We are unable to retrieve usernames and passwords at the school.

The annual South Central Health & Wellness Night will take place on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 starting at 5:30pm. Various services will be available for students including physicals, preventative heart screenings, dental care, and immunizations. There is no cost for the physicals, however, donations to the athletic department will be accepted. See the flyer for more information.

South Central Elementary School, through its penny war fundraiser, raised $14,300 for Riley Hospital for Children!

The penny war fundraiser was sponsored by Junior Council members and was held from March 9th to the 27th. Congratulations to 3rd grade for raising the most amount of money. Thank you to Ms. Fornaciari, Mrs. Perez, and our entire Junior Council! 

If you received special education services or were tested for services but did not qualify from the South LaPorte County Special Education Cooperative (LaPorte, New Prairie, South Central, Westville, Tri-Township Schools) and you graduated or were exited from services between 1/1/2020 to 12/31/2020, your records will be destroyed on or about July 1, 2026. If you wish to obtain your records, you must submit a written request to South LaPorte County Special Education Cooperative, 1000 Harrison Street, La Porte, IN 46350, attention Julie Klinedinst, or by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. The records will be released only to the former student, now of legal age, upon presentation of a photo ID or to a parent/guardian with legal documentation of guardianship. You must make the request for records by June 15, 2026, which provides the required notice to the cooperative office.
