Elementary Guidance

Miss Lindsay Dieter  - Elementary Counselor

Elementary Guidance Program

At South Central School we believe that interacting adaptively with the world requires the ability to resolve problems and effectively handle frustrations. Our counselor offers regular lessons in the classroom designed to teach important life skills and reinforce positive values.

She is concerned with:
  • The total child-socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually
  • The individual needs of all children
  • Early intervention and prevention of problems
  • Teaching life-long learning skills such as listening, organizing, decision making, thinking, and problem solving
  • Developing positive attitudes toward the world of work
  • Preventing drug and alcohol abuse
  • Absenteeism and discipline problems that interfere with time on task
  • Increased pressures on children and families: unemployment, lack of supervision, mobility, and single parents.

In addition to individual counseling and classroom lessons, Miss Dieter conducts small group in areas such as:
  • Organization
  • Service Learning
  • Acts of Kindness
  • Communication
  • Study Skills
  • Self-Esteem
  • Handling Stress
  • Setting Goals
  • Divorce
  • Grief
  • Home Alone
  • Social Skills
Since we learn best from things we most enjoy, all of the groups are designed to be fun experiences for the students.
