Superintendent's Message

Welcome to South Central Community School Corporation, home of the Satellites! On behalf of the Board of School Trustees and the dedicated staff of South Central, I am pleased to welcome you. SCCSC serves just over 1,000 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Located in rural Union Mills in southern LaPorte County, we take great pride in our longstanding tradition of academic excellence and our commitment to serving our community. To that end, South Central was honored with an Educational Excellence Award from the Indiana Department of Education for Excellence in Professional Learning and Leadership Development—a recognition that reflects the dedication of our staff and our ongoing focus on high-quality instruction.

As you explore our website, you will see the wide range of opportunities we provide to support student learning and growth. Our goal is to offer a rewarding, well-rounded educational experience that meets the needs of every student.

At the secondary level, South Central Junior-Senior High School offers an extensive selection of dual credit, Advanced Placement, and vocational courses. Students can earn college credit through partnerships with Indiana University and Ivy Tech, and they have access to several on-campus CTE pathways—including welding, PLTW engineering, PLTW biomedical sciences, agriculture, business, and more. We also partner with AK Smith, the LaPorte County Career and Technical Education Center, to further expand student options. In addition, our students participate in numerous academic, athletic, and fine arts programs. South Central Junior-Senior High School is fully 1:1, with each student issued an HP Chromebook.

While preparing students to be college, career, and life ready is our ultimate goal, the foundation for that success begins much earlier at South Central Elementary School. Our elementary students are served by an exceptional staff of caring professionals in a 1:1 blended-learning environment that integrates technology to enhance instruction. South Central Elementary is proud to be STEM-certified by the IDOE—an achievement that reflects our commitment to meaningful, hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Additionally, SCE’s commitment to early literacy ensures that all students ‘learn to read’ in preparation for the IREAD-3 assessment, then ‘read to learn’ to successfully finish out their elementary years.

We are incredibly proud of the students, staff, and families who make South Central such a special place.
